I encountered this great northern diver during my trip to Iceland. It was putting on quite a show with running on the water, flapping its wings, and diving. The behavior is very similar to the black-throated divers in Finland. The great northern diver is an extremely rare visitor in Finland, but a few individuals are spotted here annually.

Tapasin tämän amerikanjääkuikan matkallani Islannissa. Meneillään oli melkoinen esitys veden pinnalla juoksemista, siipien räpyttelyä ja sukelluksia. Käyttäytyminen on hyvin samankaltaista kuin suomalaisella kuikalla. Suomessa amerikanjääkuikka on erittäin harvinainen vieras, mutta niitä tavataan täällä vuosittain muutamia yksilöitä.
